In 2017, Leo Vieira, Frank Phung and Alvin Phung, founded DOJO by Leo Vieira - Checkmat Seal Beach as a premier Jiu Jitsu academy focused on fostering a welcoming and family-oriented training environment. Located in Seal Beach, California, DOJO serves students of all ages and skill levels, emphasizing personal growth, discipline, and technical excellence.

Frank Phung, a 3x World Master IBJJF Jiu Jitsu Champion and 2x Pan IBJJF Jiu Jitsu Champion, brings his deep competitive experience to DOJO, helping students refine their skills and develop a strong mindset for success. Alvin Phung, a World Master IBJJF Jiu Jitsu Bronze Medalist and 2x Pan IBJJF Jiu Jitsu Silver Medalist, adds his own high-level competition experience, reinforcing DOJO’s commitment to excellence.

The Phung brothers have benefited greatly from the guidance of Leo Vieira, whose mentorship has shaped their journey in Jiu Jitsu and beyond. Through years of training under his leadership, they developed a unique bond that transcended the mats. Going through battles on the Jiu Jitsu mats and supporting each other off the mat, the three became more than teammates—they became family.
